NYU’s Fighting Bobcat
In the 1980s, New York University’s mascot was the violet (flower) but the school realized this wasn’t the most appropriate mascot for their sports teams. The new mascot, the Bobcat, is actually named after the Bobst Library Card Catalog (Bobst Cat).
A fun fact about New York University is every year, NYU hosts the Strawberry Festival. The NYU cooking staff bakes the largest Strawberry Shortcake in New York, using 2,500 egg yolks, 326 lbs. of pastry flour, and 489 cups of sugar. NYU also has sister campuses in Abu Dhabi, Shanghai, and other locations around the world. Many movies and TV shows are shot around NYU or mentioned NYU. “When Harry Met Sally” , filmed in the 80’s, showed scenes all over Washington Square Park and NYU. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. has many shots of the East Village, where Ross also gets a position at NYU and Joey participates in a sex study at the NYU medical school.
